March 5 is the end of Carnival holiday in Belgian and European schools so no normal classes but Bunmi, Julie and Penni will be teaching us some songs for the Easter service

UPDATE on New helpers!

We are very pleased to have had the invaluable help of Neville Trout in the senior class again in February and delighted to have Willie Floyd (pictured above) and David Lloyd join us after half term.
Also, Helen Pilkington has very kindly volunteered to take the 5 - 6 year olds on an occasional basis.
This is progress indeed but we are still chronically short of help in the tinies department so if you can think of anyone to help, please don't be shy, just ask if they would be prepared to do a few lessons!

Next Youth event: 25 March: Grill a pastor!

Youth events hosted by other English speaking churches are open to us at St Andrews and information is posted on the joint church netsite, BeChurchTogether . We are building up an embryonic group to take part in the imaginative ventures devised by the other churches such as the next event on 25 March: Grill a pastor!

I am invited to attend planning meetings and teaching workshops. While I enjoy these, I am at least twice the age of anyone present! It is clear that someone younger is needed to represent St Andrew’s in this forum!

The next meeting is Monday 6 March. I cannot attend it as I am in Scotland. Please let me know if you can and I’ll send you the details.

UPDATE: Voluntary English for Sri Lanka - talk postponed!

POSTPONED!
Beatrix's talk to the senior Junior Church has been postponed.
It is hoped she will speak at a later date on her work with a voluntary organisation called VESL = Voluntary English for Sri Lanka. Its aim is to promote better understanding between cultures through communication and common language, plus providing general development aid through education. Beatrix was in Sri Lanka at the time of the Tsunami.

Len's talk

On 19 February the seniors had the pleasure of a talk by Len on his life and faith. Len had obviously put in a great deal of thought and preparation into it. Among other objects, he showed the children a very beautiful copper bowl he had fashioned himself out of a sheet of metal at the age of 12. Len‘s audience was surprised to hear that he wore short trousers until he was their age! They couldn't quite imagine walking miles to school through the snow in shorts! Len‘s talk was well received and at the end he was surrounded by children examining the photos he had brought.

Teachers go Bowling on Thursday 9 February

Just to prove we are not a bunch of old fuddies duddies we met at Sportopolis behind the university hospital in Jette on Thursday 9 February, where we had a meal and a game of bowling.

This was supposed to be a photo of us bowling but as the batteries in the camera failed, you have to make do with a photo of my son’s birthday party at Sportopolis until Caroline manages to download the photos she took on her mobile!

It was clear from the start that one of us was rubbish at bowling, persisting on dropping the ball, or should I say “bowl” with a crash on the “piste” and jeopardising our ever being allowed back. (Perhaps we should try Waterloo next time!)

Sia’s performance was evidence of a misspent youth as she was far and away the best. However John, Caroline and Anne made a creditable showing. One of us thinks we need more practice . . . !

We were very pleased to have Willie and Veronica show up for a drink at the beginning of the evening and everyone declared it a relaxing evening and seemed pleased with the venue.
