Fifth anniversary of 9/11
For some of our children, 9/11 is ancient history. Some of them weren't yet born. Even some of the older ones hardly remember it.

In the Senior class we talked about stories of heroism and also about two American mothers widowed at that time who were profoundly moved by the generous support offered them by friends, family and strangers from around the world. Despite learning that those responsible for their husbands’ deaths had been trained in Afghanistan, they chose to spend their funds helping widows a world away sharing the same pain because they realised that these women did not enjoy the support that they had received and had a constant struggle to live.
They founded Beyond the 11th and went to Afghanistan to see for themselves how the Afghan women could best be helped.

Government minister washes feet of the man he ordered killed

Junior Church reopened on 10 September after the summer break. The beginning of a new school year is a time for all sorts of new beginnings. Some young people are starting new schools or going on to university. Some children are going into new sections, meeting new teachers and new pupils. It is a time for new resolutions, particularly where the previous year’s results could have been better!

One man who was clearly desperate for a new beginning was South Africa's apartheid-era Law and Order minister Adriaan Vlok who recently sought forgiveness for his role in the brutal system of racial segregation and oppression of black people by washing the feet of the Reverend Frank Chikane.

Vlok said he had set a bad example throughout his life and that he was “deeply grateful that, through the grace of God, I received the opportunity to follow the example of my saviour, Jesus Christ, to set a better example for others."

We prayed that, at the start of a new school year, we will have the courage to say sorry for things we do wrong and to forgive others.

CAR FREE Sunday 17 September

Today is CAR FREE in Brussels so there will be no normal classes as we expect fewer teachers and children. However, those who do come will have a special opportunity to draw or colour pictures or write letters to the children in the Ghanaian church with which we are twinned.
